[BACKUP and Restore of Sharepoint portal]

I have created one portal using SharePoint Portal server 2003. I want to take
backup of this portal and restore it on different machine. I have tried
stsadm.exe, but it's not working.

Please suggest any solution....

You need to use spsbackup.exe to backup a whole portal. You can get to it
through your Start button -> Programs -> SharePoint Portal Server (I think
going off memory) -> Backup and Restore Tool.

This is a GUI interface that allows you to backup and restore your portal.
Search for SPSBACKUP in google to get a bunch more detail.
