Migrate existing SPPS 2003 sites to another SPPS 2003 Portal?

We have a corporate SharePoint Portal Server 2003 setup running on Windows
2003 server (we'll call this SPPS 1).

Within this corporate SPPS server setup, we have a very specific 'tree'
structure for all the different divisions, departments, groups, etc... These
were setup by a SPPS Standards Committee and are not subject to change.

Another SharePoint Portal Server 2003 setup running on Windows 2003 server
(we'll call this SPPS 2) exists in the IT Division within our corp.
We need to 'migrate' the IT portion ONLY of their Portal (SPPS 2) to the
specific IT tree structure we setup for them within the corp standardized
Portal (SPPS 1)

I am looking for 'very' detailed instructions on how to accomplish this move
WITHOUT damaging, nor overwriting any other area of the SPPS 1 Portal or
other divisions, departments, groups, etc... data, sites, etc...

Thanks in advance...
Marcus

Just simple keep the 2 environments running and connect them together via
links or the Sites Directory. Depending on your user community and how many
people are actually hitting SPPS 1 and SPPS 2 you may want to keep the
environments seperate.

Other wise you'll have to u se the backup and restore method and restore the
portal have 2 portals on SPPS 1.

Mueller, thank you very much for your reply. It's a bit more political than
that. The IT SharePoint portal MUST go away per company standards.....they
told never to build it to begin with, but they did anyway.

Thx anyway....
